As the founder and President of Professional, Larry is the driving force and conscience of the company. Larry is an EMT and an Emergency Medical Dispatcher, and regularly participates in company training and continuing education. He is always accessible to the staff as well as the people and the entities that Pro EMS serves. Larry has continuously maintained his office space in accessible areas enabling him to interact with the staff and remain a part of daily operations. Larry has been recognized by many organizations for his unwavering commitment to the community. Most recently he received the Region IV EMS Leader of the Year Award. He has been featured in JEMS and the Boston Globe for his work in EMS.

Bill Mergendahl JD, EMT-P, CEO

Bill has been with Professional since 1987 and has served in his current position since 1990. He is responsible for all aspects of the daily operation and administration of the company. Bill has extensive experience in reimbursement, clinical, and regulatory issues. Continuously involved in EMS system issues, Bill participates in national, state, regional and local committees, including the American Ambulance Association Professional Standards Committee, the Mass DPH Altered Standards of Care Advisory Committee, the Region IV Medical Control Committee, and the Cambridge LEPC. He is a regular speaker at national EMS conferences and works as an EMS consultant and expert witness. Currently he serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Ambulance Association and the Metro Boston EMS Council. Bill is a past winner of the Mark E. Weinstein Award for his commitment to EMS in metro-Boston and the Stephen M. Lawlor Award for Collaborative Practice for his work with Boston EMS. Bill holds a law degree from Northeastern University School of Law and is a paramedic.

Keri Cook EMT-P Director of CQI

Keri has over 20 years of EMS experience. She originally began working at Pro as an EMT/Dispatcher in 1989 and has been a paramedic for over 15 years. She assumed the role of Operations Supervisor in 1997. After several years away from Pro EMS, Keri returned in 2006 as a Field Training Officer. She was quickly tapped for a return to a leadership position assuming her current role in July 2006. As Director of CQI, Keri is responsible for all aspects of the Pro EMS Continuous Quality Improvement Program. In this role, she reviews all patient care reports and collects clinical data. Keri is able to manage all of these programs while continuing to serve as a field paramedic.

Teresa Cruz Director of Reimbursement

Teresa has been with Professional since 1990. She has served in her current role since 1993. Teresa is responsible for all aspects of the accounts receivable function at Pro. She coordinates the office staff and has implemented all of Pro’s initiatives in electronic billing and collections. Teresa has often served as an experienced resource for outside entities with questions regarding EMS billing issues.

Derek Hirons EMT-P, Operations Supervisor

Derek has been with Pro since 2003, when he joined as an EMT. In 2006, Derek advanced his career by obtaining his paramedic certification. In his current role, Derek is an Operations Supervisor with multiple responsibilities, including management of Pro’s radios, overseeing fleet maintenance, and various other duties. He was responsible for the creation of the Special Operations Division, which provides specialized care at many different types of incidents. Derek has undergone extensive training in the management and mitigation of WMD and HAZMAT incidents, and acts as an instructor to pass that training onto others.

Brian has been with Professional since 1998. Serving in a leadership role since 2003, Brian assumed his current role in 2006. He is responsible for field operations and field training officer duties, with an additional focus on community training. Brian sits on the Cambridge Rindge & Latin School’s Healthcare Careers Board of Advisors and is an important training resource for myriad community programs. Brian manages all of these programs while continuing to serve as a field paramedic. Brian is a past winner of the MBEMSC EMS Supervisor of the Year Award.

Chris Kerley EMT-P, Director, Center for MEDICS

Chris has over 13 years of EMS experience. He began his career as an EMT in Ireland, later working as a Paramedic in South Africa and most recently as a Paramedic Instructor at Northeastern University. As Director of Pro EMS’ state of the art medical simulation lab, Chris is responsible for maintaining Pro EMS’ high level of clinical care through a program of simulator based case review, continuing education and research. Additionally, Chris serves as the Principal Instructor of the Pro EMS Center for MEDICS Paramedic Program. Chris is a past winner of the MBEMSC EMS Educator of the Year Award.

Rachid has over 16 years of EMS experience and has been involved with Pro in various roles since 1993. Rachid originally began working as an EMT and he has been a paramedic for over 13 years. First, as a Field Supervisor, Rachid served as a presence in the field for both patients and providers. In his current role, he is responsible for all administrative duties within the operations function, as well as all field operations. Rachid is a past winner of the MBEMSC EMS Supervisor of the Year Award.

Jay Starzynski EMT-P Operations Supervisor

Involved with Pro in various roles since 2000, Jay originally began working part-time as an EMT while pursuing a career in the technology industry. Jay has been instrumental in Pro’s initial CAAS Accreditation and the implementation of Pro’s field data collection software. Today he is part of the team that oversees day-to-day operations, provides oversight for all field staff and serves as a primary contact for Pro in the community. Jay is a paramedic and previously worked for Rural/Metro Ambulance as a Business Development Manager, ZOLL Data Systems as a Regional Sales Manager and has served in the United States Marine Corps.
