EMERGENCY
In the case of an emergency
ALWAYS DIAL 9-1-1.
PRO provides emergency medical services
(EMS) to the City of Cambridge in conjunction with the Cambridge
Fire, Police and Emergency Communications Departments. Additionally,
we provide EMS to Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology. PRO also responds to requests from neighboring jurisdictions
for mutual aid.
Most 911 EMS calls enter the system via the Cambridge Emergency
Communications Center (ECC). The ECC utilizes Emergency Medical Dispatch
(EMD)
to triage calls and dispatch resources based on the nature of the
call. In an effort to cut response times PRO, along with Zoll Data
Systems, has created a CAD to CAD interface with the ECC allowing
the dispatch of an ambulance during the time when the caller may
still be on the phone with an emergency dispatcher. PRO dispatchers
use GPS and AVL to ensure the closest appropriate ambulance responds.
911 EMS calls that are the most serious in nature receive a response
from a Cambridge Fire Department engine company, Paramedic Squad
and a PRO ALS ambulance. Calls of a less serious or unknown nature
receive a response from a neighborhood engine company and a PRO unit.
All PRO units operate on the CFD radio frequency and are in constant
communication with the ECC and responding CFD apparatus.
PRO also receives and responds to EMS calls directly from Harvard
University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and other facilities
in Cambridge and neighboring towns. All PRO dispatchers are EMD certified
EMTs or Paramedics.
