| BLS Refresher: 24 hour EMT Refresher required
by Massachusetts for EMT recertification. All topics of
pre-hospital emergency medicine will be discussed and reviewed
as well as changes in state protocol. Knowledge and skills
will be tested at the conclusion of the course. |
| BLS Healthcare Provider: For
certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare
professionals. This
course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages
(including doing ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask
device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator
(AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO).
It's intended for participants who provide heath care to
patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital
and out-of-hospital. |
| Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): The ACLS Provider Course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage
adult cardiac arrest. Providers are expected to learn to manage 10 core ACLS cases: a respiratory emergency, four types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA and asystole),
four types of prearrest emergencies (bradychardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia and acute coronary syndromes) and stroke. |
| Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): This
course provides the information needed to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest. PALS also emphasizes strategies needed to prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children
The class reviews the cognitive and psychomotor skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock or cardiopulmonary arrest. |
| Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP):
A comprehensive class filled with prehospital medical information for the emergency care of infants and children. PEPP is designed to give prehospital professionals the education, skills and confidence they need to effectively treat pediatric
patients. Developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, PEPP specifically teaches prehospital providers how to better assess and manage
ill or injured patients. |
| International Trauma Life Support (ITLS): For
certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare
professionals. Basic Trauma Life Support for the EMT-B and First Responder is a 16 hour hands-on training course offering basic EMS personnel complete training in the skills
necessary for rapid assessment, resuscitation, stabilization and transportation of trauma patients. The course is designed for providers providing initial evaluation and stabilization of the trauma patients.. |
| Emergency Vehicle Operator’s Course (EVOC): Based
on the Training Program for Operation of Emergency Vehicles:
A National Standard Curriculum (EVOC), our EVOC class is
appropriate for all operators of emergency vehicles and
is mandatory training for all PRO field employees. EVOC
curriculum is comprised of 2 modules. Module A includes
8 hours of didactic classroom instruction, followed by
a written examination. Module B provides 8 hours of hands
on instruction as participants practice ambulance operator
skills on a closed course driving range. |
| Paramedic Assistant for EMT: This class introduces EMTs
to the equipment and techniques used by ALS providers.
Topics to be covered include IV insertion, intubation,
cardiac monitoring, manual defibrillation, and medication
administration. |
| Auto Extrication: Cambridge Fire Department extrication
of “victims” from junked automobiles. Emphasis
will be placed on the use of the KED, short board, and
long board to stabilize and remove victims from automobiles.
A discussion about scene safety and motor vehicle hazards/hazmats
will accompany the demonstration. |
| MCI/ICS for EMS: This course is intended for public safety
professionals who may respond to an MCI. Participants review
response to mass casualty scenarios and the specific roles
of positions within the EMS MCI command system. Mass casualty
triage and the Incident Command System are studied with
an emphasis on first response. Long-term issues for protracted
incidents are also discussed. The class has both didactic
and hands on modules. |
| SMEMS Rounds: This class is a review and critique of
actual EMS calls from the following month. Discussions
will include appropriateness of actions of all the EMTs
involved, areas for improvement and different approaches/techniques
for the same situation. Varying specific EMS topics may
be presented by Medical Directors at their discretion. |
| Radiological Preparedness: This class is presented by
Seabrook Emergency Mangers to familiarize EMS personnel
in the event of a radiological incident at the Seabrook
Nuclear Facility. |
