PROGRAMS
City of Cambridge Homeless
Census
The Homeless Census is organized and spearheaded by the Cambridge
Department of Human Services and CASPAR’s First Step street
outreach program. During an 8 hour overnight affair, volunteers
from multiple City departments and organizations carry out the
task of actually counting each homeless individual found living
on the street. The count is part of an overall effort to count
homeless persons in Cambridge and Somerville. The count includes
those persons living in transitional housing centers, shelters,
hospitals and on the street. PRO provides staffing, vehicles and
radios for the event.
H.E.A.T. and I.C.E. Programs
Both the Heat Emergency Assistance and Transportation (HEAT) Immediate Cold
Emergency (ICE) Programs were implemented by Professional Ambulance. The
programs are intended to assist residents at risk during times of extreme
weather conditions. These programs complement a wide variety of City programs
offered to elders and at risk individuals. Numerous agencies and City Departments
are cooperating entities.
